// Allison Schulnik
Artist Allison Schulnik recently opened her third solo exhibition with Mark Moore Gallery, entitled “Salty Air.” Known for applying and weaving thick layers of oil paint onto canvas, Schulnik’s work is equal parts painting and sculptural.
Based on the many different interpretations of “The Little Mermaid” fable, Schulnik’s exhibition casts mermaids, sailors, and the sea life as her main subjects. In this new body of work, “mermaids and sailors personify the vulnerability inherent to want. The sailor is free from society, but privy to isolation, while the mermaid shares a discordant existence between acceptance and solitude.”
The exhibition includes works on paper and ceramics as well. Currently on view until July 7, 2012.
