Using Venice Beach, Hand painted signs, Rastafarians, San Francisco in the 60′s, Head Shops, Ghana movie posters, tattoo flash, Mexican folk art, 70′s comics, 80′s and 90’s skateboard/snowboard graphics, self deprecation, T shirt designs, and the dark vortex of the Internet as inspiration, Brendan Donnelly’s illustrations are self-referential, carefully detailed expressions of the various corners of pop culture. Donnelly’s sardonic sense of humor is evocative of the Internet culture he draws from, and many of his illustrations spotlight a brazen, absurd style applied to people and things we see everyday. Reminiscing of what you’d find in the back of an underground comic shop, head shop, or skate shop.
Donnelly’s unique sense of humor is at the forefront of his many, many strong suits, from illustration, apparel design, Art Direction, collaborations with large brands, advertising agencies, musicians and fine art in galleries.
Donnelly currently divides his time between New York and Los Angeles.
